Day Care Centers To be Graded Like Restaurants
Under new guidelines in Jefferson County, all day care centers will now be graded for safety and health just like restaurants. This means that over 300 facilities will be affected by the new regulations. Unlike restaurant guidelines that primarily address sanitation issues, the new regs also address child safety issues such as falls, sharp objects, etc.
In previous blog posts, we have addressed all manner of child safety issues surrounding fall hazards, choking hazards and sharp objects. The new law will finally address these items. While the changes will make Birmingham area child car facilities safer, regrettably, only one other county in Alabama has enacted stricter rules for day care centers. Our firm urges all governmental districts throughout Alabama to enact similar rules in order to better protect children from daycare injuries.
